Young Women’s India Association (YWIA)
The Young Women’s India Association (YWIA) committee is made up of a group of young women who feel passionately about the WIA’s work and want to help create a community of young people who can support our efforts to make a difference
Our Impact
We raise funds primarily through Gala nights and community events. Over the last 5 galas we have raised over half a million pounds for our ongoing projects. All of our trustees and executive committee members work on an honorary basis
Our current projects include providing nutrition for 500 school children, an enhanced skills programme for 120 children, vocational training courses to 100 women annually, free medical and dental check ups to a local community, computer classes and sponsoring creches for working mothers. Ladies that have benefitted from the training programmes are encouraged to return to the centre and mentor students. We also support a maternal health programme and an early childhood programme in a very remote part of Rajasthan, a home for the elderly, and a women’s centre in Delhi educating the local community on their civil rights
In the UK, we fund a debt management programme which to date has benefitted 70 families. We also sponsor the distribution of food to approximately 250 homeless people once a month at Charing Cross. Many of our committee members personally volunteer to distribute meals.
A percentage of our funds annually are allocated towards Disaster relief. In 2015, a generous corporate donation from the Veling Group enabled us to send financial aid through a matching funds programme assist in the rehabilitation or families affected in the Nepal earthquake.
